A Kiln Arrives

Just before christmas my very own brand new kiln arrived!! I was unfortunately not able to be there when it did. But looking at the photos I was shown of its delivery I think I would have been a nervous wreck being there!! It is the most expensive thing that I have ever brought and Im a little intimidated by it! However Im sure we will be the best of friends.

The Electrician and the Holes

The Electrician finally arrived! and got straight to work. However he got straight to work digging up my mums garden and paved pathway to our house door! - My mum went out to the post office and came back to find holes everywhere! oppsie! This does mean that by the end of this week I should have electric's in the building, which has taken a lot more effort and time then I thought it would!

Sinks and Shelves

The plumber has put in two sinks, one for hand washing one for cleaning out clay and plaster. The Clay and Plaster sink drains into just a bucket to stop any sedimentation going out in the water. The tap is reclaimed from a kitchen and is great it swings between both sink and is strong as anything! I also have two sets o Ikea shelves that were in my bedroom as a child! Nostalgic!

Starting the Studio

I didn't start photographing the Studio at the begging but today I thought Ild start. The walls have been painted, the floor too and a mezzanine floor has bee put in. The barn is a sunken oak structure in my parents back garden. My parents have lived on this farm since 1997 and since I graduated my Dad has said that I can use the barn at the end of the garden as a Studio. It has been a slow process getting Electrics and Water to the building. I saw Richard a plumber today, we went to a scrap yard and collected two old Ceramic sinks for free! Richard said he will do the plumbing for me by the end of the week and he is going to try and get an electrician to finish of the electrics. One of the Belfast sinks has a date on it - so I presume that it was made on 20th June 1931!

Its an exciting start! I cant wait to be able to start making!
